Abstract:

The peculiarities of the orotron double-row electrodynamical system and methods of output power increase were investigated. For the first time in the experimental model of orotron with electrodynamical system consisting of double-row plain periodic structure (DRPS) and sphere-cylindrical focusing mirror the possibility of using wide electron beam in order to output power increase in 140...300 GHz frequency range is demonstrated. The second experimental achievement showed here is the proof of opportunity of using wide electron beam for the same purpose in 2 mm orotron with focusing mirror of complicated double-spherocylindrical shape. In the first case the maximum width of electron beam was of the order of 3 caustic radii, but in the second case the maximum width of electron beam exceeded the value of 4 caustic radii. For the first time the possibility of 20–30 % frequency tuning with the power level irregularity less then 5 dB is demonstrated in 2 mm orotron with DRPS and the same mirror.
