Abstract: 

The article presents а popular introduction into а new branch of modern electronics - vacuum microelectronics. It contains historical review, brief theory of electron field emission, description of technologies for thin-film cathode arrays and discussion of vacoum microelectronics devices application for microwave amplification and generation.
