Дмитрий Александрович Усанов получил специальность радиофизика (1965г.), степень кандидата физико-математических наук по физике полупроводников и диэлектриков (1972г.) и доктора физико-математических наук (1989г.) в Саратовском государственном университете. С 1989 по 2000 г. и с 2003 по 2013 г. был проректором по НИР Саратовского госуниверситета, с 1985г. по настоящее время является заведующим кафедрой физики твердого тела Саратовского государственного университета. Профессор этой кафедры с 1990 г. Его научные интересы включают твердотельную СВЧ электронику, радиофизику, лазерную физику, медицинскую физику. Он является автором более 600 рецензируемых публикаций, в том числе 193 авторских свидетельств и патентов, старший член IEEE, Заслуженный деятель науки РФ, был научным руководителем 57 кандидатских и научным консультантом 8 докторских диссертаций. Имеет государственные и ведомственные награды. В 2000 году ему была присуждена Государственная научная стипендия РАН. Является главным редактором журнала Известия Саратовского университета - Новая серия. Физика, членом редколлегии журналов «Известия вузов Электроника», «Физика волновых процессов и радиотехнические системы»
